US Rep. Gutierrez to discuss hopes for immigration reform bill at Rice Oct. 21

U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., will speak at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy Oct. 21 on his views about the immigration reform bill currently stalled in Congress and how his life, traced in his recently published memoir, has been affected by the nation’s immigration system.

Gutierrez’ presentation, “Still Dreaming: My Hopes for the Immigration Reform Bill,” will be from 6 to 7:30 in Baker Hall’s Doré Commons. He will be introduced by Texas state Sen. Sylvia Garcia, D-Houston.

A 10-term member of the House of Representatives, Gutierrez is the author of “Still Dreaming: My Journey from the Barrio to Capitol Hill.” Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.
