Engineering Posse Brings Outstanding Minority Students to Rice

Rice University welcomed its first "posse"
of minority students from New York City to its engineering school
this fall, as part of a national engineering college scholarship
program.

Interview and photo opportunities with the students and with Don
Johnson, associate dean for academic affairs in the George R. Brown
School of Engineering, and Catherine Clack, director of Rice’s
Multicultural Affairs office, will be available in the Abercrombie
Hall lobby Thursday, Sept. 1, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The scholarship program is sponsored by the National Action
Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME) and metaNetworks. It
is designed to identify promising minority high school seniors and
to provide scholarships for degree candidates.

Members of the Rice posse received eight months of precollege
workshops to refine their leadership skills, expand their academic
proficiency, explore concepts in engineering, and develop group
cohesiveness.

Please contact Winston Derden in the Rice University News Office
at (713) 831-4793 to schedule interviews with the students.
