Rice Faculty Resources on Women’s Issues

March is recognized nationally as Women’s
History Month. Rice University has a number of experts doing
research on women’s issues and topics of general interest who are
available for comment. These resources may be useful as you plan
your story budgets.

These scholars include:

Lindley Doran, director, Rice Counseling Center, (713) 527-4867,
works with students on a range of psychological counseling issues
including dating, gender relations, and sexual intimacy and health
questions.

Cynthia Lanier, director, Office of Health Education, (713) 285-
5194, is an authority on date rape, sexual assault, and awareness
training to modify sexual attitudes and behaviors. She is currently
researching the effectiveness of training that role-models positive
sexual behavior to students.

Eva Lee, professor of human performance and health sciences, 527

All three professors have collaborated on research on
osteoporosis, a serious health problem for women which is
characterized by low bone mineral density, and the use of deep-water

particularly those formed by women. Her forthcoming book Women’s
Reading Groups and the Making of the Middle Class: Between Public
Culture and Private Lives is one of several of her studies examining
how women incorporate reading and books in defining themselves and
their roles in society.

Helena Michie, professor of English, and director, the Study of
Women and Gender, (713) 527-8101, ext. 2823, specializes in feminist
