RICE PROFESSOR OFFERS INSIGHT INTO RUSSIAN ELECTIONS

Rice professor Ewa Thompson has studied and written extensively
about the transformation of Eastern Europe since the late 1980s.
Traveling throughout the region during the past few years has
provided the professor insight into the non-communism movement and
the latest resurgence of the Communist Party.

Thompson, professor of Slavic studies, is available to comment
about the Russian elections.
Thompson was born in Lithuania of Polish parents. She is the
U.S. correspondent for Tygodnik Solidarnosc, the official weekly
newspaper of the trade union Solidarity. Her books include “The
Search for Self-Definition in Russian Literature” (Rice University
Press, 1991) and “Understanding Russia: The Holy Fool in Russian
Culture” (University Press of America, 1987).
