Experts Talk on Chinese Culture, Politics After Deng’s Death

The following Rice experts are available to talk about the death of Deng
Xiaoping and the significance both for China and the United States.

Steven W. Lewis, a lecturer in political science, can comment on Chinese
politics, the transition of power, the effect upon the People’s Congress,
changes in the economy and basic institutions of the society. Lewis can be

Jianying Zha, a visiting scholar at Rice, is a writer and researcher from
mainland China who has extensively studied modern Chinese culture. Zha is the
author of the book “China Pop” (New Press, 1996). She can talk about the effect
