Nobel Laureate Robert Curl to Deliver Public Lecture
Rice chemistry professor Robert Curl will deliver a lecture on fullerenes on
Tuesday, March 25, at 8 p.m., in the Grand Hall of the Rice Memorial Center
(RMC).
Curl, who shares the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, will discuss “The
Astounding Fullerenes: An Adventure in Science.” In terms that a lay audience
can understand, Curl will describe the discovery, which was made in 1985 with
fellow laureates Richard Smalley of Rice and Harold Kroto of England.
Curl will describe their efforts to prove their hypothesis to demonstrate how
science works. Also, he will discuss research efforts being made to find
practical applications for fullerenes.
The Rice Memorial Center (RMC) is located at the corner of Alumni Drive and
Loop Road, and can be accessed by taking Entrance 13 off of Rice Boulevard.
Parking is available directly across from the RMC.
Because the lecture is sold out, reporters should contact either Michael
Cinelli or Lia Unrau in the Rice University News Office before attending the
lecture. Contact numbers: (713) 831-4794 (Cinelli); (713) 831-4793 (Unrau).
