KTRU to Present 7th Annual Outdoor Show

On Saturday, April 4, KTRU, Rice’s student-run radio station, will present
its seventh annual Outdoor Show, a free, all-day concert on the campus.

The show will begin at noon and end about 8 p.m. The concert will feature the
experimental folk legend John Fahey of Portland, the avant-garde jazz of the
Bruce Eisenbeil Trio from New York City, the odd yet old-fashioned Little Jack
Melody & His Young Turks of Denton, as well as local artists Slight Surface
Noise, the Wholesome Rollers, Secret Agent 8, and show opener the Phil Gayle
Trio.

This concert marks the sixth anniversary of the KTRU Outdoor Show. The station’s
mission is to present a wide range of underexposed musicians to the Houston
community. KTRU aims to expand the collective musical vocabulary by clearing
space for a rich range of musical languages.

In the past, KTRU has presented underexposed artists from genres as disparate
as jazz, Indian classical, rock and roll, ska, and folk.

Free ice cream, movie passes, T-shirts, and CDs will be handed out while they
last. Willy’s Pub will be serving beer, and other concessions will be available.

The show will take place on the campus, just inside Entrance 13 off of Rice
Boulevard. Parking is free. In the event of rain, the alternate location will
be Fitzgerald’s, 2706 White Oak. For information and directions call (713) 527-4050.
