CAAM to Toast 30 Years

Past and current students and faculty of the Department of Computational and Applied Mathematics (CAAM), formerly the mathematical sciences department, will gather May 15-17 to celebrate the department’s 30th anniversary.
The reunion will feature talks by Paul Pfeiffer ’38, professor emeritus of computational and applied mathematics, on the history of the department, and Ken Kennedy ’67, the L. John and Ann H. Doerr Professor in Computational Engineering, on the influence of the department.
Henry Rachford ’45, professor emeritus of mathematical sciences, will speak about the history of computation.
Other distinguished speakers at the event include Mary Wheeler ’71, former Rice faculty member in the CAAM department and now a professor at the University of Texas-Austin; John Dennis, the Noah Harding Professor of Computational and Applied Mathematics; and Robert Bixby, research professor on computational and applied mathematics and administrative science.
