HONG KONG LEADERS TO DISCUSS FUTURE COMPETITIVE ISSUES AT BAKER INSTITUTE
PROGRAM
The future competitiveness of Hong
Kong in the world marketplace will be the topic of discussion among officials
from Hong Kong and the United States at Rice’s James A. Baker III Institute for
Public Policy on Monday, Sept. 14, 1998.
The program will start at 10 a.m. in Baker Hall on the Rice
campus.
Representatives from Hong Kong will include: Henry Tang and
Nellie Fong, members of the cabinet which is an advisory panel to the chief
executive of the Hong Kong government; and Andrew Sheng, newly named chairman of
that government’s Securities and Futures Commission.
Representing the United States will be former U.S. Ambassador
to China Mickey Kantor.
“We welcome the visit of this important delegation from Hong
Kong, especially since it complements the Baker Institute’s focus on China in
its Transnational China Program,” said Baker Institute director Edward
Djerejian. “Given the current financial and economic turmoil in Asia, Russia and
elsewhere, the Hong Kong delegation’s views will be most timely.”
This event is sponsored by the Better Hong Kong
Foundation.
