Lopez Named President of CAC
Victor Lopez, women’s track and field head coach, was named president of the Central
American and Caribbean Athletics Confederation (CAC) at the recent CAC Senior
Games in Maracaibo, Venezuela. The CAC is the governing body for track and field
for 35 countries in the Central American and Caribbean regions.
Lopez, in his 20th year at Rice, has built the program into one of the most respected
and successful in the nation. He is also president of the board of directors for
the North America, Central America and Caribbean Track and Field Coaches’ Association;
is a member of the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) technical
committee, and is editor of the IAAF-NACAC Technical Bulletin. He recently served
as the head of the delegation for the Americas Team for the 1998 Track and Field
World Cup that just concluded in South Africa.
Wilson New Speaker for Faculty Council
On June 2, during its first meeting of the 1998-99 fiscal year, the Faculty Council
elected Bill Wilson, professor of electrical and computer engineering, as speaker
for 1998-99.
