National Geographic’s ‘Explorer’ Host to Discuss Adventures

Boyd Matson, the host of the National Geographic “Explorer” TV series who has survived extremes in temperature, altitude and endurance, will discuss his adventures today, Nov. 12, at Rice.
The lecture is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall, Rice Memorial Center, and it will include time for questions.
Presented by Toyota Land Cruiser and the National Geographic Society, the talk is part of National Geographic’s lecture series “The Great Adventurers.”
Matson, who is a native Texan, will provide a personal account of his experiences in the field, ranging from completion of a 140-mile seven-day foot race across the Sahara Desert to dog sledding in Minnesota at 60 degrees below zero. In November, Matson will run in the Southern Traverse, a multisport race through the New Zealand bush country.
