Carrethers Earns Volleyball Honors
Senior middle blocker Tiffany Carrethers made Rice history on Nov. 2, earning
the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national player of the week
honors. Carrethers, a graduate of Pasadena school district’s Dobie High School,
is the first Rice volleyball player to receive the honor since the AVCA began
giving the award in ’94.
On Oct. 29, Carrethers tied her career best of 22 kills against Colorado State
and posted 20 digs and a .636 hitting percentage. The victory over then-24th-ranked
Colorado State marked the first win in the program’s history against a ranked
opponent. As of press time, the Rice volleyball team is 19-8 overall and 7-4
