1999 Rice Phi Beta Kappa Student Initiates Selected

The Beta of Texas Chapter can invite as many as 10 percent of Rice seniors
for membership in Phi Beta Kappa. Candidates are selected on the basis of the
national Phi Beta Kappa guidelines, as implemented for the Rice University campus.
Criteria include: 90 hours of liberal course work (laboratory, performance
and professional courses are not allowed), 10 courses outside the division of
the declared major (two beyond the graduation requirement), grade point average,
and good academic/Honor Council standing.
Selection is made in the early spring each year, with initiation activities
occurring later that same semester.
