Profiles of the Next Century Campaign Leadership Committee follows:

Honorary Co-Chairs

Robert C. McNair is chairman and CEO of the McNair Group and owner of Stonerside Stables and Palmetto Partners. He is the founder and former chairman and CEO of Cogen Technologies. He is a member of the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. He served on a U.S. Department of Treasury task force and as a consultant to the U.S. secretary of transportation. He is president of the Houston Grand Opera Association. He is also a member of the 2012 Foundation, a group of business leaders attempting to bring the 2012 Summer Olympic Games to Houston.

James A. Baker, III, the 61st secretary of state, is the honorary chair of Rice’s Baker Institute for Public Policy. He is a senior partner with Baker and Botts law firm. He is the grandson of Capt. James A. Baker, the original chairman of Rice’s Board of Trustees and namesake of Baker College. He also serves as a director on the boards of Reliant Energy (formerly Houston Industries) and Electronic Data Systems (EDS). He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1991 and has been the recipient of many other awards for distinguished public service.

Charles W. Duncan Jr., the immediate past chairman and a trustee emeritus of the Rice Board of Trustees, is chairman of Duncan Interests, a private investment firm in Houston. He received the Association of Rice Alumni’s Gold Medal in 1979. His distinguished record of government service included serving as secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy and the deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Defense in the Carter administration. He is a trustee of the Robert A. Welch Foundation, the Lillian H. and C.W. Duncan Foundation and the Anne and C.W. Duncan Jr. Foundation as well as an honorary trustee of the Brookings Institution. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Working Co-Chairs

J.D. Bucky Allshouse, a member of Rice’s Board of Trustees and chair of its advancement committee, owns a family law practice in Houston. He received the Association of Rice Alumni’s Meritorious Service Award in 1995. He received the Dave Gibson Award for Excellence and Professionalism in Family Law in 1990. He is a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Family Law Section of Houston, Texas and American Bar Associations, Texas Bar Foundation and Gulf Coast Family Specialists. He is a fellow of the Houston Bar Foundation.

Kent Anderson, a member of Rice’s Board of Trustees and chair of its building and grounds committee, serves on the advisory board of directors and is an executive banking officer for Compass Bank. He received the Association of Rice Alumni’s Gold Medal in 1999. He serves on the board of Del Webb Corp. and is a member of the Texas Association of Regional Bank Holding Companies and the Texas BankersAssociation. He chaired the capital campaign for the Children’s Museum of Houston and served on its board. He is past director of the Houston Symphony and the Houston Ballet and a former trustee and annual fund drive chairman of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
