Financial Planning Courses Set

Five MoneySense financial planning series, which proved popular among faculty and staff in the fall, have been scheduled for the spring semester.

The sessions will run Jan. 19 and 26 and Feb. 2; Feb. 8, 15 and 22; March 22 and 29 and April 5; April 13, 20 and 27; and May 31 and June 7 and 14. All sessions are scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the Rice campus.

The program is open to all benefits-eligible employees with five or more years of benefits-eligible service at Rice. Faculty and staff can sign up for the classes by visiting the Web at http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~humres/Services/Benefits/FinancialPlanning. Rice will pay the $65 fee.

Provided by ReliaStar and separate from TIAA-CREF and Fidelity workshops, MoneySense classes offer participants a better understanding of financial matters and include an individual and confidential financial plan. The comprehensive plan will allow participants to meet a full range of financial needs, such as children’s education costs, insurance and retirement. A copy of an example plan for a fictitious family is posted on the Web site.MoneySense consists of three classes for the Rice employee and his or her spouse. A one-on-one meeting with a financial adviser will also be set up later to review the plan.

A list of faculty and staff who completed the fall classes and who are willing to be contacted about the sessions is also available on the Web.

Faculty and staff with less than five years of benefits-eligible service can pay for the MoneySense course themselves and will be placed in classes on a space-available basis.
