Masden ready to help student clubs and organizations achieve
Human resources has announced the dates
for the fall Financial Planning Workshops.
Series 1 is scheduled for Sept. 14 and 21 from 5:30 to 9:30
p.m., and Series 2 is set for Nov. 8 and 15, also from 5:30
to 9:30 p.m. The classes will be held in the facilities
and engineering training room on the west edge of the campus.
These will be the only two financial planning
workshops offered during the fall semester, and enrollment
will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Participation
of spouses or partners is encouraged. Rice will pay the
fee for benefit-eligible employees with more than five years
of service who complete the workshop. Employees with less
than five years service may enroll but must pay the fee
themselves.
To enroll, go to <http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~humres/Services/Benefits/FinancialPlanning/>,
download the sign-up form using Acrobat Reader, complete
the form and return it to the human resources department,
MS 92, Attn: Benefits.
Note that each series will consist of two
evenings of a group class. An adviser will arrange a one-on-one
session with each participant to deliver and discuss their
individual financial plan. The format of the workshops have
been changed this year to two group classes rather than
three.
The response by those who participated
last year was overwhelmingly positive, according to Quentin
Masters, assistant human resources director.
Information on the workshops is available
on the Web site, including the information-gathering form
used to pull together the data for the adviser and a sample
financial plan, both of which may be viewed with Acrobat
Reader. (Those considering downloading the sample financial
plan should note that it is a large file.)
Masters urges employees to consider utilizing
this worthwhile benefit that helps plan for retirement.
