is compiled from clippings provided by a national service,

Richard Smalley, the Gene and Norman Hackerman Professor
of Chemistry and professor of physics, was quoted on the

Earl Black, the Herbert S. Autrey Professor of Political

Rice student Chris Wall was quoted on his bid, with Jesse
Weisz, to become the youngest flight crew on record to circle

the computing industry quoted Jim Tour, the Chao Professor
of Chemistry, and discussed his research and company.

A letter by President Malcolm Gillis appeared.
A news brief mentioned the conference “Global Warming:
Science and Policy” held at the James A. Baker III
Institute for Public Policy. Robert Curl, the Harry C. and
Olga Keith Wiess Professor of Natural Science, was mentioned
as one of the keynote speakers. Ken Medlock, a Baker Institute
scholar, commented on the conference.
Bob Stein, dean of social sciences, commented on the potential
impact of Ralph Nader’s candidacy on the presidential
election.
Katherine Bennett Ensor, professor and chair of the Department
