The Friends
of Fondren Library at Rice University will accept donations
of new and used books Saturday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. at Star Motor Cars, 7000 Old Katy Road.
The book drive
is being held in preparation for next years semiannual
book sale benefiting Friends of Fondren Library.
Hardbacks and
paperbacks are needed. Donations should be boxed or double-bagged.
Because of minimal resale potential, the Friends of Fondren
cannot accept old encyclopedias, magazines, books damaged
by insects or dirt, outdated technical books and directories,
condensed books, catalogs and damaged or yellowed paperbacks.
The Friends
of Fondren Library, now celebrating the its 50th anniversary,
was founded as an association of library supporters interested
in increasing the resources of Fondren Library and making
them better known. The group raises funds to purchase rare
books, manuscripts and other materials needed to support
teaching and research at Rice.
Friends of Fondren
Library board member Lee Seureau and her husband, Glenn,
have donated storage space at Star Motor Cars for the book
drive.
