KTRU broadcasting at 91.5, 91.7

Through funding
from the university, KTRU-FM 91.7 recently has activated
a new transmitter to improve reception of the station on
and around campus. Areas with formerly fuzzy reception,
such as the Texas Medical Center, Southampton and West University,
now have the option of tuning into 91.5 FM if KTRU is not
coming in well on 91.7.

KTRU, the 50,000
watt student-operated radio station at Rice University,
is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. A noncommercial
radio station funded by the university, KTRU plays numerous
genres of sometimes eclectic music that is underrepresented
by other Houston-area radio stations and serves as a local
educational radio station. KTRU was voted the best radio
station by the Houston Press this year and received the “Best Talk Radio” award from the Press last year.
