Peter C. Caldwell, associate professor
of history, has received a 12-month research fellowship
from The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany. The
foundation’s fellowships are awarded on a worldwide,
competitive basis. Caldwell will begin the fellowship in
June 2001 and will use it to carry out research on the theory
and practice of centralized planning in the German Democratic
Republic. He plans to visit archives and carry out interviews
with some of the leading economists, lawyers and philosophers
of the former East Germany.

Nicholas K. Iammarino, professor,
Dept. of Kinesiology and premed adviser, and Malcolm Goldsmith,
Southern Illinois U.–Edwardsville, presented an invited
paper titled “Health Attitudes and Behaviors of Adolescents
in the United States: An Examination of YRBS Data”
at Korsakov Central Hospital, Sakhalin Island, Russia, July
4. Iammarino and Goldsmith also presented an invited paper
titled “The Role of Coordinated School Health Programs
in Addressing Child and Adolescent Health Issues” at
Korsakov Middle/High School No. 2, Sakhalin Island, Russia,
July 6.
