International Education Week events

International Education Week events

The following events will be offered by the Office of International
Students and Scholars (OISS) in conjunction with International
Education Week.

• S.I.R.
(Spouses of Internationals at Rice) luncheon for all international
spouses and international women students and scholars, Tuesday,
Nov. 14, noon, OISS lounge, Abercrombie Engineering Laboratory.
Special guest speaker will be John Alford, associate professor
of political science, who will explain the U.S. election
process. The talk will include an interactive discussion
about elections in other countries and a comparison of similarities
and differences between the U.S. electoral system and that
of other countries. Luncheon hosted by Patsey Crews, community
volunteer for the OISS.

• “What’s an Interview for Permanent Residency
Like?” seminar by Rose Mary Valencia, director of international
affairs, The University of Texas Health Science Center,
and vice president of NAFSA: Association of International
Educators; Tuesday, Nov. 14, Room 301 Sewall Hall, 4-5:30
p.m.

• Fall 2000 International Graduate Student Orientation
reunion, Friday, Nov. 17, 3 p.m., OISS lounge.

• Traditional Thanksgiving dinner for international
students and their families, hosted by Crews, Sunday, Nov.
19, 1 p.m.

• Rice international students will be visiting Houston-area
schools to talk about their countries.
