Photos, documents part of unique exhibit
The note former
secretary of state James A. Baker III received during a
luncheon in 1989 to alert him that the government of East
Germany was opening its borders to the West is part of a
new exhibit at Baker Hall.
Reconstruction
and Unification: Germany and the U.S., 1945-1990 encapsulates
the efforts to end the Cold War with historic photos and
documents. The exhibit complements the Baker Institutes
recent commemoration of the 11th anniversary of the fall
of the Berlin Wall.
Among the items
on display at this unique exhibit are a 1989 photo of Baker
peering through the Berlin Wall, a 1963 photo of John F.
Kennedy in Berlin when he presented his Ich bin ein
Berliner speech, text from the 1947 Marshall Plan,
a reprint of the 1949 Basic Law for the Federal Republic
of Germany and the Baker Blueprint that made the cover of
the Dec. 25, 1989, Time magazine.
The exhibit
will be on display in the front lobby of Baker Hall through
the first week of January 2001.
