authors, others to be honored

The Friends of
Fondren Library will honor Rice faculty, staff, alumni and
Friends’ members who have authored a book, edited a
journal, composed a major musical work or mounted a one-person
art show in 2000.

A program will
be held Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. in the library’s Kyle Morrow
Room with a reception following.

The Friends
of Fondren Library is asking for assistance in identifying
such people in the Rice community. If you authored a book,
edited a journal or produced a musical work or art show
last year or if you know someone who did, forward the information
to Mary Pat Julian, <mjulian@rice.edu>
or (713) 348-5157. Be sure to include the following information:
name of author/editor/composer/artist; title of work; publisher;
and publishing date.


Apply now
for CIC summer service trip

The Community
Involvement Center currently is accepting applications for
its annual International Summer Service Trip. Thirteen spaces
are available for the May 14-27 trip to San Lucas Toliman,
Guatemala.

Applications
are due in the CIC, located in the Rice Memorial Center
cloisters, by 5 p.m. Feb. 12. Applications also will be
accepted online. To apply online visit the Web at <www.ruf.rice.edu/~service/>.

Applicants selected
for the program will be notified by Feb. 16. A $300 registration
fee must be paid by participants by Feb. 23. The fee includes
transportation, housing, construction materials, meals and
some organized group activities. Scholarships are available;
inquire with the CIC.

Students will
participate in service projects organized through the Diocese
of New Ulm, which established a parish in San Lucas Toliman
30 years ago. Most of the projects in which students participate
will focus on environmental work.
