April
6 gala to honor Fondren family
…………………………………………………………………
The Friends of
Fondren Library will honor the Fondren family and the Fondren
Foundation at an April 6 gala at the Houston Country Club.
The Fondrens
provided $1 million to establish the Fondren Library at
Rice in 1946. Over the years, as the library exceeded its
capacity for books, the Fondren family, through the Fondren
Foundation, supported renovations to the library, including
their recent contribution for the construction of the new
library at Rice.
Tickets to the
21st annual black-tie gala are $150 and include dinner and
live and silent auctions. Proceeds will benefit the librarys
Special Collections Endowment Fund. For tickets, call (713)
348-5157.
Rice President
Malcolm Gillis and his wife, Elizabeth, will host a cocktail
party for underwriters of the event prior to the 7 p.m.

The Friends
