6 car wash to benefit service trip

The Community
Involvement Center will host a car wash April 6 from 1 to
5 p.m. in the parking lot next to the campus police station.
The car wash
will raise money for the CICs trip to San Lucas Toliman,
Guatemala, where 14 students will perform community service
projects.
Tickets are
$5 in advance or can be purchased at the car wash. For information

European
judge to address civil rights

A European court
judge will present the lecture Social and Civil Rights
in the European Union April 10 at 10:45 a.m. at Farnsworth
Pavilion, Ley Student Center.
Joseph Azizi
is judge and president of the Court of First Instance of
the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. The courts
are analogous to U.S. federal courts.
His talk will
focus on the judiciarys role in protecting human rights
and fundamental freedoms. A 10 a.m. reception will precede
the lecture.
Summer opportunity available for students

Students planning
on being in the area this summer have the opportunity to
participate in Urban Immersion, a program that introduces
incoming freshmen to Houston. The group of incoming students
will spend several days in July participating in community
service projects, visiting local community agencies, enjoying
some of Houstons unique cultural opportunities and
meeting community leaders.
Symphonic
Band to present concert

The Rice Symphonic
Band will join the Houston Concert Band Sunday, April 8,
for a free concert at Stude Hall, Alice Pratt Brown Hall.
The 3 p.m. event is open to the public. Conducted by Robert
Cesario, director of bands, the concert will include Be
Thou My Vision by Gillingham, Tichellis Cajun
Folk Songs II and Rudins Dream of Oengus.
