Advisory Board links campus, business communities

Rices
Career Services Center has established the Employer Advisory
Board to provide a link between the campus and business
communities.
By bringing
information to the Career Services Center concerning labor
market trends, recruiting practices and industry changes,
the board will provide a channel of communication between
career services, faculty, students and business, according
to Nancy Laidlaw, assistant director of the Career Services
Center.
This initial
group is made up of business representatives from companies
that have had a long-standing and active interest in the
Rice community.
By establishing
the board, Rice career services staff plan to provide an
external perspective to the centers focus and offer
an opportunity for self-assessment and goal development.
Staff at the center also hope that the board will act as
an advocate both at their respective companies and on the
Rice campus. The first Employer Advisory Board conference
is scheduled for May 2.
Members of the
new board include Jay Grob, vice president, Bain & Co.;
Kenneth May, manufacturing manager, Celanese; Martha McCumpsey,
senior manager, Deloitte Consulting; Mark Courtney, general
manager, Enron Energy Services; Sharyl Hackett, campus relations
and diversity manager, ExxonMobil; Bruce Baehl, human resources
manager, Lexicon; Mark Finger, vice president of human resources,
National Instruments; Jeff Andrien, senior managing consultant,
Peterson Consulting; Melissa Waldon, OFS recruiting coordinator,
Schlumberger; Jeff Johannig-man, manager of worldwide staffing,
Tivoli; William R. Burton, senior vice president of human
resources, Williams; Jim Ignowski, project manager, Hewlett-Packard.
