A letter to the editor written by Rice President Malcolm
Gillis appeared. In the letter Gillis discussed needed reforms
in the German public university system and mentioned International
University Bremen.

An article featured the research and successful observation
of Fermi pressure in the lab by Randall Hulet, the Fayez
Sarofim Professor of Physics and Astronomy, and Rice colleagues.
Linda McNeil, professor of education, commented on education
in Texas.

Hispanic
Magazine
Rice was listed third among the top 25 colleges and universities
for Hispanics.
An article profiled Rice alumnus and new White House counsel
Al Gonzales.

A French-language article featured Janet Braam, associate
professor of biochemistry and cell biology.

Bob Stein, dean of social sciences, commented on term limits
and discussed the findings of a study he undertook on term
limits and the impact term limits have had on city governments.

Wright, vice president for enrollment, and discussed what
Rice has done to make college more affordable.
Paul Katz, professor of cello and chamber music at Rice,
