New
Goethe Center director named

Klaus Weissenberger,
professor of German, has been named director of the Goethe
Center for Central European Studies. A longtime Rice faculty
member, he has played an active role in several Goethe Center
events. He replaces Carl Caldwell, effective July 1. The
center was founded at Rice last year after the closing of
the Goethe-Institut Houston, which was dedicated to teaching
the German language and organizing cultural presentations
on Germany.

 

Cultural
exchange programs available

Members of the
Rice community interested in getting involved in cultural
exchange may want to consider two programs:

• Local
families can host a high school exchange student for a semester
