guide names Rice a ‘best buy’

Rice University
has been named a "best buy" by the 2002 edition
of the Fiske Guide to Colleges for offering "remarkable
educational opportunities at a relatively modest cost."

Edited by former
New York Times education editor Ted Fiske, the guide lists
best buys among 22 private and 21 public institutions. The
rating is based on the quality of the academic offerings
in relation to the cost of attendance.

"With top-notch
programs in liberal arts and sciences, a huge endowment
and a below-average tuition, Rice is one of the best buys
around," the guide states.
