Workshop
on science careers to be held

The Association
for Women in Science Gulf CoastHouston Chapter will
host the workshop Climbing the Science Career Ladder
Thursday, Sept. 20, from 6 to 9 p.m., third floor of Alkek
Tower, Baylor College of Medicine. Men and women, AWIS members
and nonmembers are welcome.
Susan Fitzpatrick
from the James F. McDonnell Foundation will give the keynote
address, Serendipity and Why It May Not Be the Best
Way to Manage Your Career. Presentations on career
development will follow. Scientists (faculty, staff, postdoctoral
fellows and graduate students) will have an opportunity
to attend seminars on how to manage and develop their careers
at large academic medical institutions and how to pursue
career opportunities in science education or industry. They
also will be able to network in an informal atmosphere.
Additionally, up to 15 recruiters from within the Texas
Medical Center and from outside industry will attend the
workshop. Attendees are invited to bring their curricula
vitae to share with these recruiters.
