news and events were provided by the Staff Advisory Committee:

“Get
Looped at Lunch”

The Employee Activity Committee invites all Rice employees
to join a walking group. Two groups are scheduled to walk
every week. This is a great opportunity to exercise and
visit with fellow employees.

The first “Get
Looped at Lunch” group meets at 12:05 p.m. in front
of the Humanities Building across from Baker College for
a 40-minute walk. The second group meets at 12:15 p.m. outside
the Allen Center near the inner loop sidewalk for a 20-minute
walk. Each group walks on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The walking
groups are cancelled for inclement weather and during the
holiday breaks and the summer months. For more information
contact Sue Gauthier at <gauthier@rice.edu>.

“Netiquette
— Manners on the Net”

All staff members can attend the Staff Advisory Committee’s
next Brown Bag Lunch seminar about etiquette Jan. 16 from
noon to 1 p.m. in 102 Howard Keck Hall. As use of electronic
communication in the workplace continues to grow, so does
the need for “netiquette.” Etiquette guidelines
for the computer and Internet, such as the content and quality
of e-mails, as well as traditional etiquette rules, like
which fork to use when faced with a formal place setting,
will be covered at this lunch seminar. Rice staff member
Sally Reynolds and others will offer a brief overview of
table settings and aspects of etiquette on the Internet.
For more information contact Carlos Garcia from the chemistry
department at (713) 348-6215. Visit the Staff Advisory Committee’s
