NEWS
…………………………………………………………………
The following
news and events were provided by the Staff Advisory Committee:
Gillis,
Levy and Currie talk with the SAC
President Malcolm Gillis, Provost Eugene Levy and Dean Currie,
vice president for finance and administration, joined the
Staff Advisory Committee (SAC) for its regular January meeting.
The discussion involved topics such as campus parking, construction
and security and other issues of interest and concern to
Rice staff.
The Staff Mentoring Program
The Staff Mentoring Program provides a way for veteran staff
members to share their knowledge with new and experienced
staff members alike. New staff members gain from the coaching,
guidance and encouragement a mentor can provide, while experienced
staff gain a fresh perspective and develop new relationships.
In turn, the university benefits through the establishment
of a stronger campus community.
Often new staff members, and even experienced ones, have
difficulty meeting other staff and learning about the campus
culture. Mentoring is a way in which senior people can help
junior colleagues become a part of the campus society and
learn the ropes.
Those interested in being a mentor or a mentee
can contact Ellen Butler at (713) 348-5630 or (713) 348-4639
or by e-mail at <butler@rice.edu>.

Rice Fest will be held April 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at
the Rice Memorial Center. Rice Fest showcases the universitys

some of Rices own departments and offices will highlight
their services. Refreshments will be available, and there
also will be giveaways.
