Enjoy a fairly
cultural experience March 22

Rice’s annual
Culture Fair, presented by ADVANCE (Advocating Diversity
and the Need for Cultural Exploration), is set for Friday,

March 22.

The fair will run from noon to 4 p.m. in the Grand Hall
of Rice Memorial Center and will include cultural booths
sponsored by such groups as the Rice Iranian Society, the
Turkish Student Association, Indian Students at Rice, the
Native American Student Association and the Taiwanese Student
Association.

A Thai buffet dinner, which will cost $7, will follow the
fair at 6 p.m., and a multicultural talent show, in which
student organizations compete for cash prizes, and a fashion
show sponsored by ADVANCE will be presented at 7 p.m.

The Culture Fair caps the “Unity in Diversity”
week, organized by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and
designed to expose the Rice community to the rich diversity
of cultures on campus.

The event is free, except for dinner, and open to the public.

Call for nominations
for student, alumni awards

Members of the
Rice community are invited to nominate students and alumni
for awards recognizing service to the university. The awards
are presented by the Office of Student Activities, the Office
of Student Affairs, the SA Awards Committee and the Association
of Rice Alumni.

• The Rice University Service Award is given in memory
of Hugh Scott Cameron, the first dean of students, and is
awarded to as many as four students or alumni who have been
exemplary in rendering service to the student body.

• The Sallyport Award is presented by the Association
of Rice Alumni to recognize an undergraduate or a gra duate
student who has made extraordinary contributions to the
Rice community. A faculty letter of recommendation and a
resume are required as part of this nomination.

• The Outstanding Senior Awards are given to graduating
seniors who have contributed the most to excellence at Rice.
This award recognizes excellence not only in service but
also performance, dedication and character.

• The Morty Rich Scholarship is awarded to a continuing
student who has demonstrated outstanding commitment or service
to Rice or the greater community.

Nomination forms may be picked up at the Student Activities

Nominations should be returned to the Office of Student
Activities, MS 527, by Monday, April 1.

Mass held
every Friday during Lent

Mass is being
held at the Rice Memorial Chapel at noon every Friday during
Lent. The services, open to faculty, staff and students,
last about 30 minutes. For more information, contact the
