Institute for Public Policy, commented on Russias
influence on the global energy market, how it is affecting
OPEC and benefiting the United States.

In an article about Enron, Bala Dharan, the J. Howard Creekmore
Professor of Management at the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School
of Management, commented on the shaky accounting practices
of Arthur Andersen, Enrons accounting firm. Stephen
Zeff, the Herbert S. Autrey Professor of Accounting and
professor of managerial studies at the Jones School, also
commented on Andersens practices.

An article mentioned that David Cook, assistant professor
of religious studies, translated letters left by the hijackers
of the
Sept. 11 attacks. Cook commented on the similarity of the
words in those letters to the message in a videotape of
Osama bin Laden.
Houston Chronicle
An article featured Bill Gordon, distinguished professor
emeritus of space physics and astronomy and of electrical
and computer engineering, and reported his winning two engineering
awards for creating a massive, landmark telescope. Paul
Cloutier, professor of physics and astronomy, commented
on Gordon and his work. Kenneth Pitzer, former Rice president,
was mentioned.
Houston Business
Journal
A column featured a software platform developed by Rice
alumnus Jeff Hoye and student Derek Ruths. The article mentioned
a Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship forum
at which Hoye and Ruths presented the idea for the platform.
Steve Currall, director of the Alliance, commented on Hoye,
Ruths and their endeavor.

Edward Djerejian, director of the Baker Institute, commented
on Israel banning Yassir Arafat from Bethlehem.
KUHF-FM
Djerejian commented that in the wake of the terrorist attacks,
every level of society is seized with the task of enhancing
its collective defense.
