Sept. 4 dean’s lecture to examine travel industry trends
and issues

William J. Hannigan,
chairman and chief executive officer of Sabre, will be on
campus Sept. 4 to discuss leadership issues and trends in
the travel industry.

Hannigan will
share his unique insight on the topic “Leadership and
Change in the Travel Industry in Light of Sept. 11”
at a talk as part of the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School
of Management’s Dean’s Lecture Series. His lecture
is scheduled for 9:45 to 11:15 a.m. in the Jones School
Auditorium, Room 108.

Sabre, the world’s
leading provider of technology and marketing services for
the travel industry, provides innovative products that enable
travel commerce and services and enhance airline/supplier
operations.

Hannigan was
elected to the Sabre board of directors and named president
and CEO in December 1999 and named chairman of the board
in March 2000. Under his leadership, Sabre has completed
several key transactions that position the company for higher
growth and profitability.

Before joining
Sabre, Hannigan held several senior executive positions
at SBC Communications, including president of SBC Global
Markets and president of Southwestern Bell’s $4.5 billion
business services unit.

Prior to SBC,
Hannigan spent 13 years at Sprint Corp. He began his career
at Sprint as a field engineer. He then served in positions
of increasing responsibility throughout his tenure at Sprint.

Hannigan earned
a master’s of business administration from the University
of Colorado. He also served six years in the U.S. Navy Submarine
Service. He is a member of the board of the Dallas Citizens
Council and the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association.

The Dean’s
Lecture Series brings prominent business leaders to talk
with students at formal presentations, followed by informal
receptions. This year, lectures will focus on understanding
the qualities that make individuals successful leaders,
especially in times of change.
