New online recruiting system helps employers connect with
students
…………………………………………………………………
Employers recruiting
talented college students will have a much easier time making
a connection due to a new online recruiting system being
developed and tested by Rice University and 26 other schools.
NACElink
a joint project of the National Association of Colleges
and Employers (NACE), the national source of information
on the college job market, and DirectEmployers Association,
which develops Internet-based technologies is a specialized
service that caters specifically to student and employer
recruiting needs, according to Marilyn Mackes, NACE executive
director.
Members
have been instrumental in the development of the system
and will continue to drive its development based on their
needs, Mackes said.
NACElink currently
offers job postings, a resume database and administrative
tools for the colleges career services departments.
In July, it will add an interview-scheduling component.
The service provides
distinct advantages for Rice and other universities. Since
NACE and the DirectEmployers Association are nonprofit organizations,
costs are minimized, allowing for the service to be provided
free of charge. In addition, the NACElink software can be
customized to accommodate individual colleges career
center Web sites, allowing for direct communication with
employers, rather than through a third-party service provider.
The Rice job
posting site will now be known as RiceLINK.
RiceLINK
represents a major philosophical as well as technological
shift in the services we provide employers, said Cheryl
Matherly, director of the Rice University Career Services
Center. The quality of services we provide will be
improved and much more cost-effective.
