Alliance presents nano forum

The Rice Alliance
for Technology and Entrepreneurship will present the third
annual Nanotechnology Innovation Forum Friday, Jan. 16.
The forum is scheduled as an all-day event beginning at
9 a.m. in the main auditorium of Anne and Charles Duncan
Hall.

The morning session
will feature discussions by Rice faculty. Speakers will
include Wade Adams, director of the Center for Nanoscale
Science and Technology; James Tour, the Chao Professor of
Chemistry, professor of mechanical engineering and materials
science and professor of computer science; Enrique Barrera,
associate professor of mechanical engineering and materials
science; Randall Hulet, the Fayez Sarofim Professor of Physics
and Astronomy; Walter Chapman, professor in chemical engineering;
and Vicki Colvin, associate professor of chemistry and in
chemical engineering.

After lunch,
Richard Smalley, University Professor, the Gene and Norman
Hackerman Professor of Chemistry and professor of physics,
along with James Von Ehr, the founder, chairman and chief
executive officer of Zyvex Corp., will present “Nanotechnology:
Creating the Next Energy Revolution.” The afternoon
keynote session will be on opportunities for nanotechnology
to revolutionize the global supply and demand for energy.

The final session
will allow five early stage nanotechnology companies to
present their business plans and receive feedback from a
panel of venture capitalists including Clinton Bybee from
Arch Ventures and Joel Serface from Eastman Ventures.

The program will
conclude with a company showcase and networking reception
from 5 to 6 p.m.

The cost for
the forum is $55. Admission is free for Rice Alliance Members
and current full-time Rice faculty, staff and students.
