Houston Chronicle
An article about efforts being made to reform school finance in Texas mentioned testimony made before the Texas legislature by George Zodrow, professor of economics. The article recommended that “everyone everywhere read the learned and dispassionate evaluation of alternative sources of tax revenues for Texas by George R. Zodrow of Rice University.”
In an article that reported on growing political awareness and interest among young people, Shawn Leventhal, founding member of the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy Student Forum, said he had seen political awareness growing among students particularly since the terrorist attacks of 2001, but he’s not convinced they will vote.
An article reported that the Houston-Galveston area will now have until 2010 to meet a new standard for ground-level ozone. Matthew Fraser, assistant professor in civil and environmental engineering, said that in Houston, “It’s very possible … that we would meet the eight-hour requirement and still have short-term high levels.”
