Rice’s elder care resource group to meet Feb. 9
Rice employees who are coping with issues of elder care are invited to the Elder Care Resource Group meeting at noon Feb. 9 in Room 3092, Anne and Charles Duncan Hall.
The meeting will feature a presentation by Sheltering Arms, a nonprofit United Way agency dedicated to preserving the dignity and independence of the elderly.
Sheltering Arms provides information on the most comprehensive array of quality, affordable services for the elderly and their caregivers in the Houston area.
Interested employees also can join the new Elder Care Resource Group listserv by visiting <https://mailman.rice.edu/mailman/listinfo/eldercaregroup-l> and completing the requested information.
This listserv will be used to distribute information about meetings and resources and for members to post questions and exchange information.

Computer short course schedules available online
Rice offers a variety of free, instructor-led computer short courses for faculty, staff and students. The Information Technology Computer Short Course schedule for spring 2005 is available at <www.rice.edu/it/help/train/>. Courses include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Acess), Dreamweaver, Oracle Calendar, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Filemaker.
Classes range from two to three hours in length and are offered during daytime and evening hours. The courses are free for Rice faculty, staff, students and their dependents.
If a course or time doesn’t fit the bill, IT will do a special-request class for a minimum of five people. To arrange this, contact Steve Linscott at <linscot@rice.edu>.

Young Professional Women at Rice to meet Feb. 4
The February meeting of the Young Professional Women at Rice (YPWR) will be held at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, in the Cohen House’s Esther Room. The topic of the discussion will be “Changes at Rice.”
YPWR aims to provide a support network to young women who work at Rice. Monthly networking meeting afford the opportunity to discuss issues women face, including professional development, mentoring and balancing work and family life.
