Vice President for Enrollment Ann Wright was quoted in an article about the huge number of “peculiar” scholarships offered to college students, some of them highly limiting and specific. Wright said that although some of them sound peculiar, “they are not unusual,” and added that many donors have specific ideas, relating to their own personal stories, of how they want their money spent.
Houston Chronicle
Mamoun Fandy, senior fellow in Middle Eastern studies at the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy, wrote an opinion piece in which he said that while the news coming from Lebanon is good, the behavior of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is reminiscent of the tactics of Saddam Hussein before his 1990 invasion of Kuwait.
An article discussed the ethics of sharing wireless Internet service. Alastair Norcross, associate professor of philosophy, said it is “kind of a tricky issue. I would say if you wanted to be on the right side of the ethics of the matter, I would imagine that what one ought to do is ask your neighbor. I have a wireless Internet service in my house, and quite frankly I wouldn’t mind if my neighbor were to take advantage of it.”
An article about Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston mentioned the group is joining Rice’s Boniuk Center for the Study and Advancement of Religious Tolerance.
