Note change in date for final
president’s open-office hours

The president’s next open-office hours will be
April 6. President David Leebron will be available to meet with students from 3 to 4 p.m. in the President’s Office on the fourth floor of Allen Center. Note this is a change from the original date (March 29).

The office hours are a way for students to convey concerns, ask questions or just talk with the president. No appointments are necessary.

The office hours will be conducted with an “open door” approach, allowing as many students to come as will fit in the president’s office. Thus private individual problems will continue to best be raised in private with the appropriate university officials.

Rice Light Opera Society to continue performances

The Rice Light Opera Society will present Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic light opera “Patience”
March 24-26.

The operetta tells the story of a superficial and flamboyant poet who has won the hearts of all the young ladies with his madly romantic behavior. But the girl he wants to attract is a modest milkmaid who will have nothing to do with him. A rival poet and the ladies’ former suitors further complicate his attempts at courtship.

“Patience” premiered in 1881 at London’s Opera Comique before moving to the newly built Savoy Theatre. This sixth collaboration of Gilbert and Sullivan was immensely popular and ran for 578 performances.

“Patience” will be performed in the Will Rice College Commons. All shows are at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for the Rice community.
