Edie Carlson, associate dean of the School of Continuing Studies, has been elected to a three-year term on the Commission on Futures and Markets of the University Continuing Education Association. The commission helps to ensure that continuing higher education professionals have the preparation and supportive professional network needed to anticipate and respond quickly and effectively to major national and international shifts in markets, trends, and curricular requirements.

An interview with Jane Chance, professor of English, from “Turgon’s Bookshelf: Q-and-A with Jane Chance” in “Green Books-Exploring the Words and Worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien” appears in a collection on the best material published by oneringnet.com in “More People’s Guide to Middle-Earth.” Her essay on “Tolkien’s Women (and Men): The Film and the Book” was published in “Tolkien on Film: Essays on Peter Jackson’s ‘The Lord of the Rings.’” Her collection “Tolkien and the Invention of Myth: A Reader” is sold out and being reprinted.

Darra Keeton, associate professor of painting and drawing in the Department of Visual Arts, is having a solo exhibition of recent paintings through May 14 at Rudolph Projects/Art Scan Gallery, 1836 Richmond Ave. For information, call 713-807-1836.
