HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WRITERS READ THEIR WORK AT RICE MAY 5
Event is part of Center for Education’s School Writing Project
High school students and their teachers will gather at Rice University to read original poems, essays, journals and short stories Thursday, May 5, 4:30-6:30 p.m. in Farnsworth Pavilion, Ley Student Center.
The event — held annually — is part of the Rice Center for Education’s School Writing Project.
Schools whose students will be participating in the readings include Bellaire High School, DeBakey High School, Lee High School and The Challenge School. Also participating are high school students in the after-school program at Project Row Houses.
The School Writing Project encourages students to explore all types of literature and to experience it through writing. The project includes teacher-led, semester-long workshops in which teachers learn to teach writing and develop their own writing skills. More than 450 teachers have participated in the project since it began in 1988.
To reach the Ley Student Center, enter campus at Gate 8, off University Blvd., park in the stadium lot and take the shuttle bus to the student center.
