President Leebron to hold open forums

Over the course of the fall semester, Rice University President David Leebron will hold numerous events on campus to foster comments and dialogue about the Call to Conversation, a document outlining the fundamental questions the president wants the university to address to secure its future.
President Leebron has scheduled times to meet with the university’s various constituencies, including faculty, staff, graduate students, undergraduates and alumni. These events are intended for members of the Rice community to provide President Leebron with feedback on the document.
In addition, all members of the Rice community are welcome to provide comments on the Call to Conversation
Web site at <http://www.rice.edu/c2c>. The interactive site is intended to assure all members of the Rice community have an opportunity to submit written comments on the Call to Conversation.
“I have been pleased already with the large number of insightful comments we have received from the many people who care about the future of Rice,” President Leebron said. “I very much look forward to continuing the conversation during the fall semester.”
Two open staff forums were held over the summer and approximately 320 staff members attended. A transcript of these forums will be featured in an upcoming issue of the Rice News. The audio from the staff forums is available on the Call to Conversation Web site.
Following the State of the University Address at 4 p.m. Sept. 7, in McMurtry Auditorium, Anne and Charles Duncan Hall, President Leebron will hold an open forum with faculty. He will also visit with some academic departments to discuss the Call to Conversation. The deans of each school will also facilitate faculty conversations.
The Student Association will sponsor a forum at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in Farnsworth Pavilion, Rice Memorial Center. President Leebron will also visit the nine residential colleges in evening forums with undergraduate students throughout the fall semester.
President Leebron will meet with representatives from the Graduate Student Association in early September and hold an open forum for graduate students at 3 p.m. Oct. 5 in McMurtry Auditorium, Duncan Hall.
Rice alumni will also have an opportunity to directly engage the president on the Call to Conversation in various settings, including a forum during homecoming weekend at 11 a.m. Nov 12 at the Shepherd School. He is also scheduled to visit with alumni in different cities across the country to get their feedback and answer questions.
