Fund makes parking available for K-12 outreach
Rice University President David Leebron recently announced the creation of a one-year K-12 Educational Outreach Pilot Parking Fund. This pilot fund will make available approximately 4,000 visitor parking validations to teachers, students and other participants of K-12 outreach programs sponsored by Rice.
“This initiative recognizes Rice’s distinctive contributions in K-12 outreach, especially teacher professional development, and is a way to help public school teachers and students come to our campus for educational programs and activities,” President Leebron said.
Rice-sponsored programs that serve K-12 educators or students are eligible to apply for this funding. Any program that charges participant fees is not eligible to receive validations. Programs wishing to apply for visitor validations must have completed part two of the Engaging Houston Survey (https://www.explore.rice.edu/EHP/ActivityLogin.asp?MODE=LOGIN) in its entirety, with particular attention to information regarding program funding and target participants. Please contact engage@rice.edu with questions about the Engaging Houston Survey. Programs must also submit an online form (http://explore.rice.edu/Forms.asp?MODE=NEW&Forms_FormTypeID=-72) to specify the number of validations requested.
Requests will be considered separately for the fall and spring semesters. Applications for validations needed this semester are due to the Educational Outreach Office by Nov. 1. Applications for validations in the spring and summer are due by Feb. 1.
A committee led by Associate Provost Roland B. Smith Jr. that included representatives from the budget and parking offices at Rice will review requests and distribute validations to eligible programs as appropriate. This review process will occur one time each semester, so programs are encouraged to assess their needs for the year when submitting applications.
This fund will evolve and respond as issues and concerns are raised. Proposed by the parking committee and developed in collaboration with the parking and budget offices, the fund will be administered by the Office of Educational Outreach (www.rice.edu/outreach).
