“The strong ties between the American and the Norwegian peoples have brought great economic strength, cultural richness and appreciation for generations,” said former Vice President Walter Mondale, who is leading Americans in this year’s celebration and in a public commitment for a shared future.
The three concerts, held in cooperation with the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Houston, will each be at 8 p.m. in Duncan Recital Hall, Alice Pratt Brown Hall.
Norway’s internationally acclaimed tuba soloist, Øystein Baadsvik, will perform in recital Oct. 19. Joined by pianist Patti Wolf, Baadsvik will perform works by Grieg, Vivaldi, Arban and others.
Soprano Tracy Rhodus, violinist Tor Johan Bøen and pianist Jason Hardink, all Shepherd School alumni, will perform an all-Grieg program Oct. 21.
A concert of works by Norwegian composers will be Oct. 22, with faculty performers that include the Webster Trio (Leone Buyse, flute; Michael Webster, clarinet; and Robert Moeling, piano); Robert Atherholt, oboe; Benjamin Kamins, bassoon; William VerMeulen, horn; and the Fischer Duo (Norman Fischer, cello, and Jeanne Kierman Fischer, piano).
Admission is free for these performances.
