Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management faculty members Shannon Anderson, associate professor of management; Sally Widener, assistant professor of management; and Scott Baggett, lecturer on statistics, were awarded an honorable mention for their research paper, “Customer Satisfaction During Service Operations Failures: The Role of Attributions of Blame,” by the Production and Operations Management Society. Anderson presented the paper at the group’s annual meeting in April.
Rice doctoral student Subashini Asokan has been selected as a Society for Optical Enginnering scholarship winner. Asokan’s research focuses on synthesis of nanoparticles of controllable size and shape. She will use her scholarship to participate in the group’s Photonics West Symposium.
The American Society for Engineering Education recently accepted a paper from June Ferrill, lecturer in managerial studies at the Jones School. The paper, “Teaching Ethics Specific to Entrepreneurial Students,” will be presented at the annual conference in Chicago. The paper is based on a recently published book, “Seven Layers of Integrity,” which Ferrill co-authored.
Vice President for Public Affairs Terry Shepard and Jones School Director of Marketing and Public Relations Debra Thomas will have their essay “Legacy Admissions are Defensible Because the Process Can’t Be Fair” reprinted in a collection titled “A Sequence for Academic Writing.” The book is scheduled to be released in November.
Richard Tapia, University Professor, the Maxfield and Oshman Professor in Engineering and professor of computational and applied mathematics, spoke at the sixth annual diversity summit, “Inclusiveness, Globalization, Innovation: Catching the Wave of the Future.”
