Video editing, authoring classes offered through short courses
The Rice Digital Media Center is offering free instructor-led computer short courses this semester.
The available courses include video editing with Final Cut Pro, DVD authoring using DVD Studio Pro and an introduction to podcasting.

New vending options available online
The Housing and Dining Department has opened an online vending store.
Rice departments can order drinks, snacks and disposable items for delivery to their offices on campus.

Student discounts for Houston Grand Opera
The Houston Grand Opera is offering student ticket packages for as low as $10 a performance. Faculty and staff can buy tickets to any three operas for $99.

This weekend at Rice Cinema
This weekend Rice Cinema will feature the Houston premiere of “Lunacy” (“Sileni”), a “philosophical horror film” in which director Jan Svankmajer adapts two stories by Edgar Allen Poe and mixes them with a little Marquis de Sade.
Movie time is at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, through Sunday, Oct. 1. General admission is $6. Faculty, staff and all full-time students with a college I.D. and senior citizens can get $1 off the admission price when they show their I.D. at the door.

‘Stress eaters’ can get coping tips from Methodist Hospital
Why do some people lose control of their eating habits when they are stressed? The Methodist Hospital will be on campus Friday, Oct. 6, for a lunchtime discussion of mindless munching.
Employees can bring their healthy lunch to 307 Sewall Hall for a noontime talk about the dangers of eating when the body is stressed and learn coping secrets from the pros at Methodist.
Mark your calendars to get a free flu shot
Rice Human Resources is again providing free flu shots for benefits-eligible faculty, staff and Rice retirees.
Flu shot administration is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, and Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the Kelley Lounge of Rice Memorial Center.
Nonbenefits-eligible faculty and staff and all spouses or domestic partners can also get flu shots at cost — $22 per shot — by paying for the injection at the time of service. Shots are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. =
