To expedite and improve the processing of work orders on campus, Facilities, Engineering and Planning (FE&P) will launch FAMIS July 1. FAMIS is an integrated facilities management system that allows users to submit work orders through Web-based forms.

“By implementing FAMIS we are optimizing and streamlining the way we serve the university community,” said Andrea Martin, director of enterprise applications. “In this system, there is a built-in work flow that will better route requests to the appropriate people.”

FE&P, Administrative Systems and Information Technology collaborated to develop and implement the system.

FAMIS, an Oracle-based system, will manage a wide range of duties, from hosting request forms and work-order processing to handling inventory and purchasing. Using the Web interface and their net ID and password, customers will be able to see the status of their requests and the costs, as well as approve utility outages and get estimates.

FE&P will continue to work with focus groups and accept feedback to further improve and customize the system.

E-mail, phone and paper forms will still be accepted, but the goal is to eventually handle all such business online at https://famisweb.rice.edu.

In case of emergency or for immediate assistance, customers should still call the Facilities Service Center at 713-348-2485.

FE&P will send more information and specific instructions to customers later this month. Training and information sessions will be offered in July.
