Ground breaking

Rice alumni Burt and Deedee McMurtry, both from the Class of ’56, helped break ground Aug. 28 for Rice’s 10th residential college, which will be named in their honor. Last year the couple pledged $32 million to their alma mater. A portion of that gift will support Rice’s residential college system.

The 324-bed facility is scheduled to open for student use in the fall of 2009.
